This site was created with the intentions of criticism towards Lyndon State College's administration. This site in no way talks about faculty or some of the staff. They are what makes this college a college. Unfortunately you can't have the faculty without the administration, if you could this website would have NEVER come into existence.
The General Education Unit program was also mentioned here and yes, I don't like the program. To best sum it up, a visitor (Buddy Reeves) to this site, left this in the guest book: "LSC has many advantages... small class sizes, professors are very helpful, and so are most faculty and staff. There are some problems at LSC that need some help, such as the General Education Unit. These courses need to be thrown out and let the students chose what to take for requirements. Transferring these GEU credits are a major headache. ALMOST all colleges/universities will not take GEU courses. I was rejected for all."
I concur with Mr. Reeves in the fact that the college does offer small class sizes. I also concur with the fact that the faculty and some staff members are very helpful and concerned about how I do. However, they have no control over the GEU program. The infamous GEU 101, Entering an Academic Community class, would be an impossible class to transfer (other colleges would laugh at it saying, "You paid the college to have you drink for the first time and got three credits for it!").
There are two reasons why this program should be abandoned: 1. It is not easy to transfer out making it so you are stuck here. Or you're forced to start over at another college. If the program was designed to make students stay, why??? If they aren't staying, doesn' that mean there is a problem??? (And I wouldn't think it is the faculty or some members of the staff causing the problem either.)
2. The courses are too broad on the fields of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences for a student to learn much of anything from it. Going back to the G1, G2 & G3 system would be a much more effective way of educating students at this college.
The fact of the matter is that LSC's administration doesn't listen to their students or certain members of their faculty and staff. When a college shuns people that make the college a college, you can be certain that people will not put up with it for long!
In closing... I would like to reiterate what was said at the top. This college is a good college, if you're just looking at its faculty and some members of the staff. However, you cannot factor out the administration.
Hopefully one day the bureaucratic red-tape will be cut. |
